Computers on the Internet are primarily identified by IP addresses: strings of four numbers separated by dots, each between 0 and 255, like 192.168.254.118. Although it is possible to type an IP Address into your browser the domain name system (DNS), maps names onto numbers and vice versa, so that you can simply enter a domain name (like www.thedomainguide.com)
